Effective July 1, 2025, SMHG will no longer cover non-diabetic GLP 1s (e.g., Wegovy, Zepbound) but will continue coverage for diabetic GLP-1s like Ozempic. Alternatively, SMHG will introduce the Abacus Healthy Weight Program for 24 months, allowing access to the non-diabetic GLP-1s for up to 12 fills, along with diet and weight management coaching. Effective July 1, 2025, the SMHG vision plan is moving to Altus through the VSP network. VSP Vision Care offers you convenient access to network eye doctors that are independently certified, making it easy to choose the optometrist or ophthalmologist who’s right for you. You’ll also have access to more than 104,000 in network choices, including VSP Premier Edge locations, which include thousands of private practice doctors and over 700 Visionworks retail locations nationwide. Popular retailers include Costco, Walmart, Visionworks, Pearle Vision, and more.
The VSP Essential Medical Eye Care Program goes beyond routine eyecare, providing additional coverage for members with conditions such as diabetes, diabetic eye disease, glaucoma, or age-related macular degeneration (AMD). These members can also access additional services, including follow-up medical eye exams with their VSP doctor to monitor and track disease progression, as well as an additional eye exam with refraction to address changes in vision resulting from diabetes medication(s).

Exciting news – Hinge Health, a digital exercise therapy benefit offered by the Southeastern Massachusetts Health Group at no cost, is now available for all BCBS non-Medicare members 18 and over!
Hinge Health is for anyone living with joint and muscle pain, like a throbbing back, aching knees, or a weak ankle. The personalized program combines gentle exercises to target and relieve pain with 1-on-1 support from a dedicated physical therapist and health coach.
Whether your goal is to hike more, work in the garden, or take the stairs (or all three), you can get on the road to pain relief with exercises that can be done anytime, anywhere, in as little as 10 minutes.
